- JOHNNY GETS SICK -

Bugs Bunny meets Shakespeare in this hilarious satire about the Medical Community! Written and featuring John Poole in his best recurring character!

Look Out! San Texania’s favorite mendicant is back! John Poole’s recurring character of Johnny Jose returns in the show that started it all!

In Johnny Gets Sick, Johnny Jose is fired from his menial job at Ye Old McMutton King. He then witnesses a furious paper battle between a lawyer and an Insurance Agent which sparks an idea that will make the entire countryside shudder! Johnny Jose will become a Doctor!

But not your average Doctor, that would take effort. Johnny becomes a Witch Doctor, and embarks upon a career in alternative Medicine. During his journey, he winds up making fun of doctors, lawyers, insurance agents AND patients, the sick, the fakers and Al Gore.

In the land of San Texania, where Johnny lives, loves and deceives, the old is mixed with the new. The issues of today are retold through the language of Shakespeare, Moliere, Mel Brooks, Bugs Bunny and The Marx Bothers. Don’t worry, if you have never understood a word of Shakespeare, you’ll get all of this! John Poole has been taking the classics to the people since 1992. In five years he helped produced 35 classical theater titles. While dancing with the bard, he also participated with every major

Improv troupe in San Antonio including The Oxymoron’s, Comedy Sportz and Fiesta Texas. In Johnny Jose, it all comes together!

The jokes and wordplay come fast and loose. The six actors around Johnny Jose play eighteen roles, and have license to get as silly as they can. Rebecca Coffey’s inventive and unique costume design will provide a stylish backdrop that will make this production a true art event. Finally, The Overtime is privileged to welcome back Kathleen Lovejoy as director. She gives this wild ride the finesse and attention to detail that has made her one of the most sought after directors of theater in Central Texas.

Folks, Johnny Gets Sick is funny, homegrown and a bargain. Come on down and see the shows that’s got everyone wishing they made reservations.
